Education, engagement can prevent shootings

Daily Freeman (Kingston, NY) - - OPINION -

Dear Editor, Thank you for publishing “AP Study: Accidental shootings claim teens, young children in New York, northern New Jersey,” Oct. 15, 2016,.

How will we open a sane conversation about gun safety? Even in bucolic Woodstock, we have a memorial field named after Andy Lee, who was accidentally shot to death when I was a secondor third-grader in 1954.

Every one wants to keep their children safe, gun owners and non-owners alike. Safety education and community engagement are the only way in this polarized climate.
