SUNY New Paltz splits pair, gets third seed for tourney

SUNY New Paltz earned a split of two matches on the fi­nal day of State Univer­sity of New York Ath­letic Con­fer­ence pool play Satur­day and locked up a No. 3 seed for the up­com­ing SUNYAC tour­na­ment.

The Hawks lost to Oneonta 25-17, 18-25, 25-21, 25-18, then de­feated Cort­land 25-17, 25-21, 16-25, 25-16.

New Paltz fin­ished the reg­u­lar sea­son 7-2 in the con­fer­ence and 16-10 over­all. It will host No. 6 Oswego in a quar­ter­fi­nal match on Nov. 1.

Anna Paulik had a dozen kills, Mad­die Van Pelt notched 10 kills, Mad­die Zwickl dished out 35 as­sists and Veron­ica Mat­edero had 13 digs for the Hawks in the Oneonta match.

New Paltz got solid per­for­mances all around in down­ing Cort­land. Zwickl (52 as­sists, 15 digs) and Mor­gan Roseeler (19 kills, five blocks, six digs) led the way. Brit­tany Ty­ack drilled 11 kills for the Hawks, who were backed by the de­fense of Ni­cole Fel­lone (17 digs), Meg Ki­nee (15), Paulik (27) and Mat­edero (23).
