Cold beer here! (And suspect, too)
Police say a 24-year-old man fled from officers after being pulled over and was found hiding in a beer store.
A 24-yearold Saugerties man was arrested after fleeing from officers and hiding in a beer store, police said Monday.
Walton Rasi Gordon, of 105 Ulster Ave., was charged with obstruction of governmental administration and failing to comply with police, both misdemeanors; and was ticketed for speeding, failing to signal and blocking a driveway, according to the Saugerties Police Department.
Police said officers who were on speed-enforcement duty about 9:30 p.m. Sunday tried to pull over an eastbound car that was speeding, but “the vehicle failed to comply, attempting to elude officers.”
“The vehicle, after making a U-turn on Ulster Avenue, came to an abrupt stop, at which time both the operator and passenger exited the vehicle, fleeing across Ulster Avenue,” police said in a press release.
Officers ran after both people and caught the passenger, who was not charged, in the driveway at 105 Ulster Avenue, police said. They said officers continued to chase the driver, Gordon, through a yard and over a fence, toward the Beer Universe store at 239 Ulster Ave..
Gordon was found hiding inside the store and was taken into custody, police said. They said he was issued a court appearance ticket and released.
