Ellenville nets first-ever sectional playoff win
Ellenville High registered the first sectional victory in the program’s history as the Lady Devils defeated Liberty 1-0 in a Section 9, Class B quarterfinal match.

The (10-4-1) dominated play, but couldn’t break the scoreless tie until with 15 minutes left in regulation. That’s when Carly Craft knocked a pass toward the middle for JoAnna Craft, who connected on a 12yard shot on a breakaway.
“Our possession was great today. We created many chances and I was happy with our style of play. It’s all coming together at the right time for us,” Ellenville coach Matt Daum said. “We have to give credit to Liberty’s defense. They held their own and their keeper (Kelsey Morgans) was superb.”
Morgans had 13 saves for the (8-6-1) Indians. Colleen Stevens and Vanelys Malave combined for one save for Ellenville.
The Devils play at topseeded Spackenkill 2 p.m. Friday in the semifinals. The Spartans advanced with a 6-0 win over Dover. Rhinebeck 4, Marlboro 2
At Rhinebeck, Michelle Giamportone gets a hat trick, including her 100th career goal, to lead the Hawks in the B quarterfinals. She scored twice in the first 15 minutes to put her team in charge.
Libby Callahan had an assist, as did Giamportone, who set up Stephanie Cassens for a 3-0 halftime lead.
“Michelle really took charge today,” Rhinebeck coach Matt Grande said. “The way we played as a team and kept our composure makes me proud to coach these ladies
“It was a hard-fought game in the midfield and our defense did a good job keeping pressure on the Marlboro attack, which is very fast and skilled.”
Kali Schindler scored twice for Marlboro. She converted a penalty kick 10 minutes into the second half and later tallied off a Baylee Garrison pass.
Dani Amidon had seven saves for Rhinebeck, while Marlboro’s Eliz Fino made 11.
