No additional Kingston sectional qualifiers at Last Chance Meet
Kingston High was unable to add any more qualifiers for next week’s Section 9 girls swim championships after three failed to reach cut times at the Last Chance Meet hosted by Newburgh Free Academy.
Senior Melissa Longendyke came the closest to earning a spot at the Nov. 3-5 meet at Valley Central. She took nine-hundreths of a second off her season best to swim a 1:20.39 for second place in the breaststroke, but she missed the sectional time by 29-tenths of a second.
Longendyke also competed in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing 19th in 30.03.
The Tigers also had senior Mackenzie Der Cola and seventh-grader Emily McCord competing.
Der Cola slashed 3.17 seconds off her time to do 2:18.93 for fifth place in the 200-free, but was still more than four seconds shy of the cut.
She was ninth in the 100-free with a 1:03.54.
McCord did 6:14.52 for fifth in the 500-free and 28.47 for seventh in the 50-free.
