Crash snaps utility pole, ends with car upside down
The driver of a car that rolled Thursday afternoon over on Violet Hill Road was taken to a hospital for evaluation and treatment, according to the Rhinebeck Fire Department’s information officer.
The car hit a utility pole and wound up on its roof in the 2:55 accident, according to Information Officer Henry A. Campbell.
The driver was able to get out of the vehicle on his own and was taken by ambulance to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie, Campbell said. The driver’s name and condition were not provided.
The crash, near the intersection of Hilee Road, caused the utility pole to snap, and wires were hanging low over the road when emergency responders arrived, Campbell said.
The road was shut down after the crash so a Central Hudson Gas & Electric crew could replace the pole and put the wires back in place.
There was no immediate word on the cause of the accident. The road was wet from the rain-snow mix that had been falling for most of the day.
