Keep parking lots free
Dear Editor: Kingston Mayor Steve Noble’s plan to impose parking fees on the city’s public lots will create a serious problem for those people who work in Uptown Kingston and other parts of the city.
There is very limited parking as it is for daily 9-to-5 workers who are employed in businesses and non-profit agencies in the city. To convert free parking to fee-based parking for workers, many of whom are paid minimum wage, may change their ability to work from manageable to impossible.
In a time that our economy is slowly rebuilding and previously unemployed people are returning to work, adding to the city’s economic base, I urge the mayor to reconsider this proposal.
