Vote, and perhaps run

Daily Freeman (Kingston, NY) - - OPINION -

Dear Editor: I’ve been volunteering in the campaigns for candidates for years. I have seen how they work hard. So any of you registered voters who don’t vote this season should be ashamed.

All we registered voters have to do is research the voting records of those candidates who have voting records or see who is endorsed by organizations that you agree with. The NY League of Conservation Voters would be one source of information. Then go to the polls and vote.

Strategic voting means voting for the candidate who might win who is closest to your positions and, then, as a member of a group, pressuring the winner to look after your interests. If you aren’t a member of an activist group, you are missing out on maximizing your political power.

Don’t much like the positions of any of the candidates? Run for office. It doesn’t seem like a high-skill job, and the salaries for state legislator or member of Congress are probably more than you are earning now. Andi Weiss Bartczak, Gardiner
