Brookmeade residents’ artwork on display
RHINEBECK » The Brookmeade Community participated in the unveiling of the senior residents’ autumn art collection on Oct. 7 at Starr Library. Seniors and the community celebrated creativity and self-expression expressed through the exhibit titled “Community of Brookmeade Explorations in Art.” The exhibition will be on display through Oct. 31. The exhibition is a result of Brookmeade wanting to find a way to restore its residents’ ability to express themselves, increase their self-esteem and improve their quality of life. The project involved finding effective avenues for self-expression and communication for every individual, but especially so for those living with dementia and chronic illnesses. The residents were empowered to choose their own mode and self-expression, resulting in increased self-esteem and a measurable increase in their quality of life. The Community at Brookmeade, located on 75 acres just outside the village of Rhinebeck, is a senior living retirement community serving the Hudson Valley and surrounding areas. Arbor Ridge offers independent living, The Terraces offers assisted living and The Baptist Home provides long-term care, subacute rehabilitation, palliative care and Out-Patient Rehabilitation Services.
