Brook­meade res­i­dents’ art­work on dis­play

RHINEBECK » The Brook­meade Com­mu­nity par­tic­i­pated in the un­veil­ing of the se­nior res­i­dents’ au­tumn art col­lec­tion on Oct. 7 at Starr Li­brary. Se­niors and the com­mu­nity cel­e­brated cre­ativ­ity and self-ex­pres­sion ex­pressed through the ex­hibit ti­tled “Com­mu­nity of Brook­meade Ex­plo­rations in Art.” The ex­hi­bi­tion will be on dis­play through Oct. 31. The ex­hi­bi­tion is a re­sult of Brook­meade want­ing to find a way to re­store its res­i­dents’ abil­ity to ex­press them­selves, in­crease their self-es­teem and im­prove their qual­ity of life. The project in­volved find­ing ef­fec­tive av­enues for self-ex­pres­sion and com­mu­ni­ca­tion for ev­ery in­di­vid­ual, but es­pe­cially so for those liv­ing with de­men­tia and chronic ill­nesses. The res­i­dents were em­pow­ered to choose their own mode and self-ex­pres­sion, re­sult­ing in in­creased self-es­teem and a mea­sur­able in­crease in their qual­ity of life. The Com­mu­nity at Brook­meade, lo­cated on 75 acres just out­side the vil­lage of Rhinebeck, is a se­nior liv­ing re­tire­ment com­mu­nity serv­ing the Hud­son Val­ley and sur­round­ing ar­eas. Ar­bor Ridge of­fers in­de­pen­dent liv­ing, The Ter­races of­fers as­sisted liv­ing and The Bap­tist Home pro­vides long-term care, sub­a­cute re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion, pal­lia­tive care and Out-Pa­tient Re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion Ser­vices.
