Health, hu­man rights fo­cus of Nov. 3 lec­ture

NEW PALTZ » Dr. Holly Atkin­son will draw on her ex­ten­sive back­ground as a health and well­ness ad­vo­cate to ex­am­ine the ques­tion of hu­man rights dur­ing a talk Thurs­day, Nov. 3, at SUNY New Paltz.

Her lec­ture, “Health and Hu­man Rights,” which will be­gin at 7:30 p.m. in Lec­ture Cen­ter 100, is part of the col­lege’s Dis­tin­guished Speaker Se­ries.

As a for­mer pres­i­dent of the non-profit group Physi­cians for Hu­man Rights, Atkin­son un­der­stands first-hand the dev­as­tat­ing ef­fects of hu­man rights vi­o­la­tions on the well-be­ing of in­di­vid­u­als and com­mu­ni­ties. She ar­gues that by pro­tect­ing and pro­mot­ing hu­man rights, both at home and abroad, we also pro­tect and pro­mote our own health, the health of our chil­dren and that of our planet.
