Marlboro sisters eliminated
PORT CHESTER >> Marlboro High’s Emma and Grace Messenger were eliminated from the New York State Public High School Athletic Association girls tennis tournament after a pair of losses.
They won the first set against the seventh-seeded duo of Ariana Malik and Lauren Cherkin of Section 11’s Half Hollow Hills East 6-1, but the Suffolk County champs rallied to win 6-0, 6-4.
In the consolation draw, the Dukes team lost 8-6 to Courtney Kessler and Erin Lippa of Section 6’s Williamsville North.
The Messenger sisters paired up to win the Mid-Hudson Athletic League championship for a third consecutive season as a wild card and this year became Marlboro’s first-ever Section 9 doubles champions.
