SUNY New Paltz falls 3-2 to Vassar
The SUNY New Paltz field hockey team fell 3-2 to a Vassar squad that’s ranked no. 1 in the North Atlantic Region. The Hawks finished the regular season 9-8, going 5-1 in the Athletic Conference.

The Hawks finished the regular season 9-8, going 5-1 in the State University of New York Athletic Conference and earning the No. 2 seed in the SUNYAC tourney, where they’ll face No.3 Genesseo Wednesday at 2 p.m.
New Paltz went up 2-0 in the first half on goals by Justine O’Reilly, off a Hayley Kim assist, in the 22nd minute, and by Samantah Ackerman who scored for the first time this season in the 31st minute on an Erin Landy assist.
But the Brewers soon cut that advantage in half when Cristina Lopez put one in off a penalty corner during a two minute green card period just before halftime which forced Hawks goalkeeper Megan Gange where from the net.
While New Paltz had several chances to add to their tally, they couldn’t find the net and Vassar went on to score goals in the 37th and 41st minutes of the second half to take a 3-2 lead.
Vassar held a 19-11 edge in shots on goal, but the Hawks had a 13-8 advantage in penalty corners.
Megan Gangewere had nine saves for New Paltz.
