Trooper buries dog for man, 92

COUNTY >> A New York trooper went above and be­yond the call of duty by help­ing a 92-year-old town man bury his golden re­triever af­ter it was struck by a car and killed on state Route 22, state po­lice said

Mon­day.

Trooper Louis E. God­froy IV was sent about 6 p.m. Oct. 4 to help the man, who re­ported his dog had wan­dered away from his River Road home and been killed, po­lice said. God­froy re­turned the de­ceased an­i­mal to the man’s home but re­al­ized the owner would be

un­able to bury it be­cause of his phys­i­cal lim­i­ta­tions.

With­out be­ing asked, and on his own time, the trooper re­turned to the home on his day off and buried the dog, po­lice said.

“Trooper God­froy helped a mem­ber of our com­mu­nity with com­pas­sion, cour­tesy and pro­fes­sion­al­ism by tak­ing the ini­tia­tive to help the el­derly cou­ple with the loss of their fam­ily pet,” po­lice said in a press re­lease.
