Trooper buries dog for man, 92
COUNTY >> A New York trooper went above and beyond the call of duty by helping a 92-year-old town man bury his golden retriever after it was struck by a car and killed on state Route 22, state police said
Trooper Louis E. Godfroy IV was sent about 6 p.m. Oct. 4 to help the man, who reported his dog had wandered away from his River Road home and been killed, police said. Godfroy returned the deceased animal to the man’s home but realized the owner would be
unable to bury it because of his physical limitations.
Without being asked, and on his own time, the trooper returned to the home on his day off and buried the dog, police said.
“Trooper Godfroy helped a member of our community with compassion, courtesy and professionalism by taking the initiative to help the elderly couple with the loss of their family pet,” police said in a press release.
