Greene County His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety presents lec­ture

WHAT: Lec­ture, “He­len Dortch Longstreet — Build­ing B-29 World War II Bombers” WHEN: Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. WHERE: Read­ing Room of Greene County His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety’s Ved­der Re­search Li­brary on the grounds of The Bronck Mu­seum, 90 county Route 42, Cox­sackie DE­TAILS: The Greene County His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety will present a pro­gram by speaker Ron Gabrielle. It is ti­tled “He­len Dortch Longstreet — Build­ing B-29 World War II Bombers.” He­len Dortch Longstreet was the sec­ond wife to Civil War Con­fed­er­ate Gen. James Longstreet. They mar­ried in 1897 when she was 34 and he was 76. At age 80, she be­came a Rosie Riveter and helped build B-29 bombers dur­ing World War II, earn­ing the nick­name “The Fight­ing Lady.” The pro­gram is free and open to the public, but do­na­tions would be ap­pre­ci­ated.
