Greene County Historical Society presents lecture
WHAT: Lecture, “Helen Dortch Longstreet — Building B-29 World War II Bombers” WHEN: Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. WHERE: Reading Room of Greene County Historical Society’s Vedder Research Library on the grounds of The Bronck Museum, 90 county Route 42, Coxsackie DETAILS: The Greene County Historical Society will present a program by speaker Ron Gabrielle. It is titled “Helen Dortch Longstreet — Building B-29 World War II Bombers.” Helen Dortch Longstreet was the second wife to Civil War Confederate Gen. James Longstreet. They married in 1897 when she was 34 and he was 76. At age 80, she became a Rosie Riveter and helped build B-29 bombers during World War II, earning the nickname “The Fighting Lady.” The program is free and open to the public, but donations would be appreciated.
