Performing Arts of Woodstock starts Reading Series

Daily Freeman (Kingston, NY) - - FOOD -

WHAT: Play reading WHEN: Nov. 13 at 2 p.m.

WHERE: Woodstock Town Hall, 76 Tinker St., Woodstock

DETAILS: Performing Arts of Woodstock opens its new Reading Series with “Disgraced” by Ayad Akhtarv. At a dinner party with four people of very different backgrounds, the discussion turns to politics and religion and the mood becomes heated. The play reveals racial and ethnic prejudices that “secretly persist in even the most progressive circles” and depicts the challenges faced by Muslim-Americans in post-Sept. 11 America. Yet these topics are couched in an atmosphere of comedy, romance and tragedy, and the play has been hailed as one of the best in the almostnew century. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the town hall on the day of the performance.
