Woman pleads guilty to neglecting dog, cat
ELLENVILLE >> A village woman who was accused of failing to care for her dog and cat has pleaded guilty and agreed not to own or harbor animals for one year, an SPCA official said Tuesday.
Roberta Gerard, 28, pleaded guilty Oct. 25 to one count of failing to provide sustenance, a misdemeanor, according to Adam Saunders, executive director of the Ulster County society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Gerard was charged Sept. 9 with two counts of failure to provide proper sustenance and two counts of failure to provide food and drink, all misdemeanors, stemming from an investigation into the condition of animals found in her apartment. Both the dog and cat are at the SPCA shelter in the town of Ulster and are being treated by medical staff there..
The dog, named Boo, suffered injuries to its neck from a restraint device that tethered him in Gerard’s apartment, according to Saunders.
