SUNY New Paltz loses in tour­na­ment semi­fi­nal

Ge­ne­seo scored its first win over SUNY New Paltz’s field hockey team in three years, beat­ing the Hawks 1-0 Wed­nes­day in the State Univer­sity of New York Ath­letic Con­fer­ence semi­fi­nals.

Ge­ne­seo (10-9) will play for the ti­tle 1 p.m. Satur­day, host­ing (5-12) Oneonta, which stunned top-seeded Cort­land 2-1 in over­time.

Diana Rug­giero scored off Gio­vanna Fasanello’s pass on a penalty cor­ner with 5:10 left in the first half to give Ge­ne­seo the lead.

New Paltz (9-9) out­shot the Knights 12-7 and had an 11-6 edge in cor­ners, but could never tie it up.

Ni­cole Gregg had a dozen saves in goal for the shutout. New Paltz keeper Me­gan Gangewere made six saves.
