SUNY New Paltz loses in tournament semifinal
Geneseo defeated SUNY New Paltz’s field hockey team, 1-0, Wednesday in the SUNYAC semifinals.
Geneseo scored its first win over SUNY New Paltz’s field hockey team in three years, beating the Hawks 1-0 Wednesday in the State University of New York Athletic Conference semifinals.
Geneseo (10-9) will play for the title 1 p.m. Saturday, hosting (5-12) Oneonta, which stunned top-seeded Cortland 2-1 in overtime.
Diana Ruggiero scored off Giovanna Fasanello’s pass on a penalty corner with 5:10 left in the first half to give Geneseo the lead.
New Paltz (9-9) outshot the Knights 12-7 and had an 11-6 edge in corners, but could never tie it up.
Nicole Gregg had a dozen saves in goal for the shutout. New Paltz keeper Megan Gangewere made six saves.
