73 acres of farm­land pro­tected in Red Hook

The New York State Farm­land Pro­tec­tion Im­ple­men­ta­tion Pro­gram has an­nounced a per­ma­nent con­ser­va­tion ease­ment on the 73-acre Potts Farm, ad­ja­cent to the vil­lage of Tivoli.

The ease­ment on the veg­etable farm is in­tended to help en­sure a crit­i­cal mass of farm­land for the fu­ture and pro­tect the Catskill Moun­tains scenic vista along state Route 9G.

New York state will con­trib­ute $343,975, or 60 per­cent, of the to­tal project cost.

The Scenic Hud­son Land Trust and Red Hook’s Com­mu­nity Preser­va­tion Fund each will pro­vide $129,610 in match­ing funds.

With the project, a to­tal of 34 farm parcels cov­er­ing nearly 3,500 acres in the town of Red Hook will be un­der per­ma­nent pro­tec­tion and kept avail­able for agri­cul­tural use.
