73 acres of farmland protected in Red Hook
The New York State Farmland Protection Implementation Program has announced a permanent conservation easement on the 73-acre Potts Farm, adjacent to the village of Tivoli.
The easement on the vegetable farm is intended to help ensure a critical mass of farmland for the future and protect the Catskill Mountains scenic vista along state Route 9G.
New York state will contribute $343,975, or 60 percent, of the total project cost.
The Scenic Hudson Land Trust and Red Hook’s Community Preservation Fund each will provide $129,610 in matching funds.
With the project, a total of 34 farm parcels covering nearly 3,500 acres in the town of Red Hook will be under permanent protection and kept available for agricultural use.
