WHAT: Talk, “De­fend­ing Sara Roo­sevelt”

WHEN: Nov. 17 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

WHERE: Mor­ton Memo­rial Li­brary, 82 Kelly St., Rhinecliff

DE­TAILS: In re­cent years, Sara Roo­sevelt, the mother of Franklin D. Roo­sevelt, has re­ceived a bad rep­u­ta­tion, yet she was one of the great­est moth­ers and most in­flu­en­tial women of the 20th cen­tury. She has been re­ferred to as the “mother-in-law from hell” and has been used as a typ­i­cal vil­lain in every Hol­ly­wood in­ter­pre­ta­tion of the Roo­sevelt fam­ily. How­ever, when she was alive she was re­spected and ad­mired for her charm, wis­dom and kind­ness. Shan­non But­ler, a Na­tional Park Ranger, will de­liver the pre­sen­ta­tion. She is a SUNY New Paltz grad­u­ate with a de­gree in his­tory and re­cently re­ceiver her master’s de­gree from the Univer­sity at Al­bany.
