State initiative boosts science, technology
The Science Lab Initiative is a collaborative undertaking funded by a $500,000 capital grant to support the creation of science and technology labs in school districts in the state’s 103rd Assembly District, according to Assemblyman Kevin Cahill, D-Kingston.
The schools included in the initiative are the Kingston City School District and the New Paltz, Onteora, Red Hook, Rhinebeck, Rondout Valley and Wallkill school district, as well as Ulster BOCES and the Woodstock Day School. The goal of the program is to encourage scientific curiosity and creativity, build student interest in science and promote science education in middle and high schools through the creation of state-of-the-art science labs and accompanying programming. Participants have the opportunity to receive $50,000 in capital support for the creation of a science and technology lab at the middle or high school level.
