Man shot in the back; gun found

City po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing a shoot­ing on North Miller Street.

About 10:55 p.m. Wed­nes­day, the New­burgh Po­lice Depart­ment re­ceived re­ports of a shoot­ing near a park­ing lot on Miller Street, and they found a loaded hand­gun on the curb, the depart­ment said Thurs­day.

About that same time, the depart­ment said, St. Luke’s Hospi­tal no­ti­fied po­lice a man had just ar­rived with a gun­shot wound to his back.

The man, who was not

iden­ti­fied, had been taken to the hospi­tal by a friend and was ad­mit­ted, po­lice said. They did not pro­vide his con­di­tion.

Po­lice said they did not know if the gun found on the curb near the shoot­ing scene was used in the in­ci­dent.
