Fran­cis ‘Frank’ Vasalka, 88, of New Paltz

NEW PALTZ >> Fran­cis “Frank” Vasalka, 88, a long­time res­i­dent of New Paltz and High­land, passed away on Oct. 29, 2016, at MidHud­son Re­gional Hospi­tal in Pough­keep­sie, sur­rounded by lov­ing mem­bers of his fam­ily.

Fran­cis was born in Maspeth, N.Y., on Dec. 15, 1927, to Alexan­der and Pauline Vasalka.

He was a U.S. Army vet­eran who proudly served our coun­try dur­ing World War II and Korea, re­tir­ing at the rank of staff sergeant.

He was a de­voted hus­band to his wife, Regina, who passed away in 2010, and lov­ing fa­ther to his chil­dren, work­ing two jobs through­out the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s to pro­vide for them. Yet, he al­ways some­how found the time for Lit­tle League, glee club, track meets and the like to sup­port his chil­dren’s pur­suits while they were grow­ing up.

Fran­cis is sur­vived by his daugh­ter, Paula; sons, Steven and Frank; grand­daugh­ter, Kris­ten and her hus­band Dan, with great­grand­chil­dren, Madi­son, Emma, Gregory and Ben­jamin; grand­son, James and his wife Michelle; sis­ter-in-law, Va­le­ria; niece, Joan; neph­ews, John and Ja­son; great-niece, Kelly with her daugh­ter, great­great-niece, Char­lotte; great-nephew, Matt and his wife Clau­dia, with great-great-nieces, Lily and Olivia.

Ar­range­ments are un­der the di­rec­tion of Michael Tor­sone Memo­rial Funeral Home, 38 Main St., High­land, N.Y. Call­ing hours are 6 to 9 p.m. to­day, Nov. 3, 2016, and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Fri­day, Nov. 4, 2016. A Mass of Chris­tian Burial will be held at St. Joseph’s Church in New Paltz on Satur­day, Nov. 5, 2016, at 10 a.m.
