Pros­ti­tu­tion sus­pect cap­tured

NEW­BURGH >> A Hopewell Junc­tion woman has been ar­rested after meet­ing with an un­der­cover po­lice of­fi­cer who ar­ranged to meet her at a town of New­burgh gas sta­tion for sex in ex­change for money, ac­cord­ing to the Ul­ster Re­gional Gang En­force­ment Nar­cotics Team said.

Alexa M. Ste­fanchik, 25, was be­ing sought by po­lice after be­ing ar­rested on Sept. 4 for pros­ti­tu­tion in New Paltz. In Septem­ber, Stafanchik gave ar­rest­ing of­fi­cers false iden­ti­fi­ca­tion and then failed to ap­pear for in court to an­swer the charge.

On Tues­day even­ing, po­lice said, Ste­fanchik ar­rived to meet the un­der­cover of­fi­cer and, after a strug­gle, was sub­dued with a Taser and ar­rested on the New Paltz pros­ti­tu­tion charge, a mis­de­meanor. She also was charged with false per­son­ation and fil­ing a false in­stru­ment, ac­cord­ing to Ul­ster County Un­der­sh­er­iff Michael Freer.

Ste­fanchik was ar­raigned in Mar­ble­town Town Court and sent to the Ul­ster County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail, which then was re­duced to $10,000, ac­cord­ing to a jail of­fi­cer.
