9W needs turning lanes

Daily Freeman (Kingston, NY) - - OPINION -

Dear Editor: Re “Town of Ulster wants speed limit reductions on U.S. Route 9W ,” Oct. 31, 2016: The town wants to lower the speed as it allows numerous businesses to build along the Route 9W corridor. My thought is that they should make it part of the building plans to include a turnoff lane. The route is a highway, not a street. Are they trying to make it cheaper by not having to put turn-off lanes in? They put turn-off lanes in for Adams Fairacre Farms, the plaza across from Adams, QuickChek, the Chevrolet dealership and others on the road going up 9W.

I say no, as it takes me 15 to 20 minutes now to go down to Ulster from Saugerties because Saugerties did the same thing. It will increase the drive by five to 10 more minutes.

I think the businesses that get incentives of 10 years without taxes have enough money to put a turn-off lane in. Amelia B. Buddington Saugerties
