Kingston earns berth in Section 9 title match
Kingston advanced to its first Section 9 volleyball final in 17 years by sweeping Pine Bush in the Class AA semis.
Kingston High’s volleyball team is back in a Section 9 final, earning its first championship berth in 17 years with a sweep of two-time defending Class AA champion Pine Bush.
Kingston, which swept the Lady Bushmen two weeks ago, dominated the semifinal 25-19, 25-16, 25-22. It was the 10th consecutive victory for the Tigers, who have a 13-5 record heading into Sunday’s noon title match at Mount Saint Mary College.
Tori Boulay had a double-double with 21 assists, 10 digs, two kills, one ace to lead the Tigers.
Kingston had solid performances all-around from Shannon Bonewit (10 kills, two blocks, six digs, one ace), Suzy Boulay (14 digs, two aces, one kill) Jaid Harrell (nine kills, four blocks, two digs), Tori Ost (10 digs, two aces, one kill), Grace Longendyke (five kills, one block, one dig, one assist), Ashley Hintz (five digs, two aces), Sydney Jankowski (four kills, three digs) and Ashly Costello (two digs).
Pine Bush, which reached the state final last year, was
led by Courtney Gebhardt (10 kills, two blocks, eight digs), Jesa Montimurrow (10 digs, three assists) and Monet King (six kills, three
blocks). Class A Wallkill 3, Saugerties 0
At Saugerties, Wallkill clinched a spot in the Class A finals with a 25-21, 25-10, 25-23 victory over the Sawyers.
The Panthers take on 11-time defending champion
Cornwall for the title 6 p.m. Sunday at Mount Saint Mary.
Julia Fanning distributed 25 assists and dealt five aces, Rachael Colombo dominated at the net with 12 kills, five blocks and four digs and Madison Dembroski had seven aces, six
kills and three digs to lead the (13-3) Panthers.
Darian Wood (seven digs, three kills, one block), Michelle Melville (six assists, three kills) and Sammy Schatzel (three kills, three digs) paced Saugerties, which finished the season with a 9-4 record.
