HBO, Sim­mons say good­bye to ‘Any Given Wed­nes­day’

LOS AN­GE­LES » HBO’s weekly talk show “Any Given Wed­nes­day” is end­ing its run af­ter less than five months.

The last episode of the show hosted by Bill Sim­mons will air next week on Nov. 9. The ca­ble chan­nel said it and Sim­mons made the joint de­ci­sion to end “Any Given Wed­nes­day,” which de­buted in late June.

In a state­ment Fri­day, Sim­mons said he joined HBO to create a pro­gram fea­tur­ing “smart con­ver­sa­tions” for sports fans and pop cul­ture junkies. But his show failed to res­onate with au­di­ences, Sim­mons said.

HBO said it will re­main in busi­ness with Sim­mons, with new pro­grams to be de­vel­oped un­der the HBO Sports banner.
