Joan S. Van Loan, 82, of Port Ewen

Joan S. Van Loan, 82, of Broad­way, Port Ewen, passed away peace­fully at home, sur­rounded by her lov­ing fam­ily, on Thurs­day, Nov. 3, 2016, fol­low­ing a bat­tle with can­cer.

Joan was born in Mid­dle Vil­lage, Long Is­land, on June 18, 1934, a daugh­ter of the late John and Mary Jane (Her­worth) Stow­ell. She mar­ried the love of her life, Don­ald L. Van Loan, on Jan­uary 18, 1957, at the Church of the Pre­sen­ta­tion of the Blessed Vir­gin Mary in Port Ewen. They would have cel­e­brated 60 years of mar­riage in Jan­uary.

She was em­ployed by Grants Store in up­town Kingston, and also by IBM Kingston and Fer­rox­cube in Sauger­ties. Joan was most no­tably co-owner of Van Loan’s Dis­count Bev­er­age in Port Ewen, and with her hus­band Don es­tab­lished the pop­u­lar Port Ewen bev­er­age busi­ness in 1974.

Joan en­joyed trav­el­ing to casi­nos and to her se­cond home in Florida, where she and her hus­band Don would en­joy spend­ing warm times with their fam­ily and many friends.

In ad­di­tion to her hus­band, she is sur­vived by her chil­dren, Don­ald Van Loan, and his wife Michelle, of Ul­ster Park, Donna Brice, and her hus­band Leonard, of Kingston, Diane Paradies, and her hus­band Barry, of Port Ewen, Jody Van Loan of Port Ewen, David Van Loan, and his wife Kristin, of Port Ewen; a sis­ter, Jeanne Kinns of Sauger­ties; grand­chil­dren, Jes­sica Parasella, and her fi­ance Justin Ben­jamin, of Kingston, Anne Marie Van Loan, and her com­pan­ion Justin DeBroskie, of Kingston, Cody Van Loan, and his com­pan­ion Michael Woodin, Ni­cole Moli­naro, and her hus­band Eric, of Kingston, and Me­gan Gillep­sie; and great-grand­chil­dren Justin, Au­dri­anna, Wes­ley, and De­laney. Many nieces and neph­ews also sur­vive.

The Van Loan fam­ily will re­ceive friends from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sun­day at Gil­patric-VanVliet Funeral Home, 339 Broad­way, Ul­ster Park, Town of Eso­pus.

The funeral pro­ces­sion will form at 10 a.m. on Mon­day from the funeral home, thence to Church of the Pre­sen­ta­tion of the Blessed Vir­gin Mary, Port Ewen, where a Mass of Chris­tian Burial will be cel­e­brated at 11 a.m., Pas­tor Carl D. John­son, cel­e­brant. Burial will fol­low at St. Mary’s Ceme­tery, Kingston.
