Of­fi­cials in mu­nic­i­pal­i­ties along the Lower Eso­pus Creek want the state to lead a en­vi­ron­men­tal re­view con­cern­ing a fil­tra­tion avoid­ance re­newal re­quest by New York City, ar­gu­ing that the city’s Depart­ment of En­vi­ron­men­tal Pro­tec­tion has demon­strated a lack of ob­jec­tiv­ity in the mat­ter.

The towns of Mar­ble­town, Sauger­ties, and Ul­ster have all for­mally ob­jected to the city agency be­ing in charge of its own re­views and want ei­ther the state Depart­ment of En­vi­ron­men­tal Con­ser­va­tion or the state Depart­ment of Health to be the lead agency.
