Officials in municipalities along the Lower Esopus Creek want the state to lead a environmental review concerning a filtration avoidance renewal request by New York City, arguing that the city’s Department of Environmental Protection has demonstrated a lack of objectivity in the matter.
The towns of Marbletown, Saugerties, and Ulster have all formally objected to the city agency being in charge of its own reviews and want either the state Department of Environmental Conservation or the state Department of Health to be the lead agency.
