Marist Col­lege earns REAL cer­ti­fi­ca­tion

Marist Col­lege has be­come the first univer­sity in New York state to be au­dited and cer­ti­fied for Re­spon­si­ble Epi­curean and Agri­cul­tural Lead­er­ship, or REAL, ac­cord­ing to the United States Health­ful Food Coun­cil.

REAL Cer­ti­fied is the na­tion­ally rec­og­nized mark of ex­cel­lence for food and food ser­vice providers com­mit­ted to holis­tic nu­tri­tion and en­vi­ron­men­tal stew­ard­ship, ac­cord­ing to a press re­lease from the col­lege. The United States Health­ful Food Coun­cil’s third-party reg­is­tered di­eti­cians use a points-based REAL In­dex to au­dit food ser­vice providers across a range of cri­te­ria.

To be­come cer­ti­fied, op­er­a­tors must sat­isfy pre­req­ui­sites and earn suf­fi­cient points in the ar­eas of re­spon­si­ble nu­tri­tion, epi­curean prepa­ra­tion, agri­cul­tural sourc­ing and lead­er­ship by go­ing above and beyond.

The United States Health­ful Food Coun­cil was is a non­profit or­ga­ni­za­tion es­tab­lished in 2011.
