Marist College earns REAL certification
Marist College has become the first university in New York state to be audited and certified for Responsible Epicurean and Agricultural Leadership, or REAL, according to the United States Healthful Food Council.
REAL Certified is the nationally recognized mark of excellence for food and food service providers committed to holistic nutrition and environmental stewardship, according to a press release from the college. The United States Healthful Food Council’s third-party registered dieticians use a points-based REAL Index to audit food service providers across a range of criteria.
To become certified, operators must satisfy prerequisites and earn sufficient points in the areas of responsible nutrition, epicurean preparation, agricultural sourcing and leadership by going above and beyond.
The United States Healthful Food Council was is a nonprofit organization established in 2011.
