More job open­ings?

Economists ex­pect a report to­day to show that U.S. job open­ings held close to steady in Septem­ber af­ter pulling back a month ear­lier.

The Job Open­ings and La­bor Turnover Sur­vey, or JOLTS, in­di­cated that em­ploy­ers had 5.44 mil­lion job open­ings in Au­gust. That was the fewest jobs in eight months. The sur­vey pro­vides fig­ures for over­all hir­ing, as well as the num­ber of quits and lay­offs. The Septem­ber sur­vey is ex­pected to show 5.4 mil­lion job open­ings for the month.
