More job openings?
Economists expect a report today to show that U.S. job openings held close to steady in September after pulling back a month earlier.
The Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey, or JOLTS, indicated that employers had 5.44 million job openings in August. That was the fewest jobs in eight months. The survey provides figures for overall hiring, as well as the number of quits and layoffs. The September survey is expected to show 5.4 million job openings for the month.
