Former aircraft carrier commander to visit
Bill Kennedy, former commander of the USS Saratoga and USS Lexington aircraft carriers and current director of the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society at Mayport Naval Base in Jacksonville, Fla., will tour the area at the invitation of area veterans, including Marlboro Legion Post No. 124.
Kennedy is expected at 6 p.m. Thursday to place a wreath at the Veterans Memorial Highway in Hyde Park; at 11 a.m. Friday to participate in the Marlboro Veterans Day ceremony; and on Friday afternoon will be given a special tour of the Walkway Over the Hudson.
On Saturday morning, Kennedy will receive a tour of the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum and at noon will give a speech at the Henry Wallace Center at the Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site. The speech will be open to the public. At 2:45 p.m., Kennedy will tour St. James Church and cemetery in Hyde Park.
