Col­lege hosts ‘Day of Jewish Learn­ing’

The third an­nual “Day of Jewish Learn­ing” at SUNY Ul­ster Sun­day, Nov. 13, will fea­ture ed­u­ca­tor Lex Rofes.

The event, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., is spon­sored by the Jewish Fed­er­a­tion of Ul­ster County and SUNY Ul­ster.

Rofes’ talk, sched­uled for 10:15 a.m. in the stu­dent lounge, is ti­tled “‘We’ and ‘Me’: Iden­tity and Com­mu­nity in Con­tem­po­rary Ju­daism.”

Rofes is a Jewish ed­u­ca­tor and or­ga­nizer who is the strate­gic ini­tia­tives co­or­di­na­tor of the In­sti­tute for the Next Jewish Fu­ture, co-host­ing its podcast, en­ti­tled “Ju­daism Un­bound.” He is study­ing to­ward rab­binic or­di­na­tion through The Al­liance for Jewish Re­newal. A 2013 grad­u­ate of Brown Uni­ver­sity with a de­gree in Ju­daic Stud­ies, he worked pre­vi­ously as an ed­u­ca­tion fel­low for the In­sti­tute of South­ern Jewish Life in Jack­son, Miss.
