Voters approve library funding increase
Town residents voted 2,110-1,120 in favor of a $30,000 funding increase that will bring the amount provided to Morton Memorial Library to $107,000 annually through the property tax levy.
Library board President Steve Sansola said the funding is intended to make the Rhinecliff facility less reliant on independent fundraising efforts.
“The additional $30,000 will really help to maintain current library operations,” he said.
Town residents in 2006 agreed to set annual funding for library at $35,000. In 2013, residents voted 1,146839 to increase the amount at $77,000.
Prior to the 2006 vote, the library only received $12,000 annually through a contribution from the town budget.
The current library budget is $168,600.
