Town residents voted 3,766-3,268 in favor of a proposition that will double the term for the town highway superintendent from two to four years.

Under the proposition, the longer term will begin with the winner of the 2017 highway superintendent’s election.

Town Highway Superintendent Doug Myer said he supported the proposition as a way to ensure continuity for long-term projects and shared services with neighboring municipalities.

Myer, who has been highway superintendent since 2012, said there are longterm plans that are easier to accomplish if there isn’t an election campaign every other year.
