City judge wins unopposed
City Judge Philip Kirschner, a Democrat, was elected to a 10year term Tuesday with no opposition.
He collected 6,765 votes, according to the Ulster County Board of Elections.
Kirschner was appointed by then-Mayor James Sottile as part-time city judge, effective Jan. 1, 2010. In 2013, the state Legislature approved a resolution making the position a fulltime judgeship as of April 2014. Kirschner has served as a full-time judge since then.
Kirschner is one of two full-time judges in the city. The other, Lawrence Ball, was elected to the full-time post in 2010 after having been appointed to the parttime position in 2007.
