Sec­tion 9 team will com­pete at states

Kingston’s Becker, Hines among Sec­tion 9 con­tin­gent slated to com­pete in Chenango Falls

Sec­tion 9’s squad will in­clude 18 ath­letes — Mount Academy’s boys team plus 11 other in­di­vid­u­als — when it com­petes Satur­day in the New York State Pub­lic High School Ath­letic As­so­ci­a­tion’s cross coun­try cham­pi­onships at Chenango Val­ley State Park in Chenango Falls.

There will be eight races af­ter the 8:45 a.m. open­ing cer­e­mony. The girls race first, com­menc­ing at 9 a.m. The boys fol­low at 11. The sched­ule will be Class B-C-D-A for both gen­ders.

First on the course at 9 is the girls Class B race with Red Hook High’s Sheena Dwyer-McNulty.

That’s fol­lowed by the girls Class C race at 9:30 with Ron­d­out Val­ley’s Mor­gan Juric and Jen­nifer Cal­lan.

Af­ter the girls D at 10 is the Class A at 10:30 with new Mid-Hud­son Ath­letic League champion Sarah Trainor of Roo­sevelt.

There are 14 lo­cal run­ners com­pet­ing in three of the four boys races.

At 11 is the Class B with Red Hook’s reigning MHAL win­ner

Jack Hobson. Also in the event is Wal­lkill’s Joe Push­man.

It gets busy at 11:30 with the Class C. Mount Academy, which won the Sec­tion 9 ti­tle last week, is led by Daryl Blough and Kent Kurtz. The rest of the team fea­tures Bren­dan Baird, Bernard King, Jamie Kei­der­ling, Adam King and Justin Compy.

Also run­ning the C race is Wes­ley Cruz of Ellenville, Marl­boro’s Cliff Rood and Caleb Hor­witz of Ron­d­out.

Af­ter the D race at noon is the fi­nale of the day: the boys Class A which fea­tures a pair of Kingston run­ners in Robert Becker and Jayson Hines. Becker was sec­ond over­all in the Sec­tion 9 A event. Hines placed sev­enth.

Medals will be awarded one hour af­ter each event’s start time.
