Section 9 team will compete at states
Kingston’s Becker, Hines among Section 9 contingent slated to compete in Chenango Falls
Section 9’s squad will include 18 athletes — Mount Academy’s boys team plus 11 other individuals — when it competes Saturday in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association’s cross country championships at Chenango Valley State Park in Chenango Falls.
There will be eight races after the 8:45 a.m. opening ceremony. The girls race first, commencing at 9 a.m. The boys follow at 11. The schedule will be Class B-C-D-A for both genders.
First on the course at 9 is the girls Class B race with Red Hook High’s Sheena Dwyer-McNulty.
That’s followed by the girls Class C race at 9:30 with Rondout Valley’s Morgan Juric and Jennifer Callan.
After the girls D at 10 is the Class A at 10:30 with new Mid-Hudson Athletic League champion Sarah Trainor of Roosevelt.
There are 14 local runners competing in three of the four boys races.
At 11 is the Class B with Red Hook’s reigning MHAL winner
Jack Hobson. Also in the event is Wallkill’s Joe Pushman.
It gets busy at 11:30 with the Class C. Mount Academy, which won the Section 9 title last week, is led by Daryl Blough and Kent Kurtz. The rest of the team features Brendan Baird, Bernard King, Jamie Keiderling, Adam King and Justin Compy.
Also running the C race is Wesley Cruz of Ellenville, Marlboro’s Cliff Rood and Caleb Horwitz of Rondout.
After the D race at noon is the finale of the day: the boys Class A which features a pair of Kingston runners in Robert Becker and Jayson Hines. Becker was second overall in the Section 9 A event. Hines placed seventh.
Medals will be awarded one hour after each event’s start time.
