Po­lice say woman pro­vided mar­i­juana to boy, who got sick af­ter smok­ing it

A 23-yearold Sauger­ties woman was ac­cused Fri­day of pro­vid­ing mar­i­juana to a 15-yearold boy who got sick af­ter smok­ing it, po­lice said.

Den­nisse Tor­res Ro­driguez of 2693 U.S. Route 9W, town of Sauger­ties, was charged with crim­i­nal sale of mar­i­juana, a felony, and with en­dan­ger­ing the wel­fare of a child, a mis­de­meanor, ac­cord­ing to the Sauger­ties Po­lice Depart­ment.

On Wed­nes­day, Sauger­ties Po­lice went to Ben­nett Av­enue in the vil­lage of Sauger­ties in re­sponse to a re­port that a 15-year-old boy got sick af­ter smok­ing mar­i­juana, po­lice said. Po­lice said the boy be­lieved the mar­i­juana was laced with co­caine.

An in­ves­ti­ga­tion determined that Ro­driguez had pro­vided the teen with mar­i­huana, po­lice said.

Af­ter the two had smoked, Ro­driguez then drove the teenager to the vil­lage of Sauger­ties, po­lice said. The boy be­gan to get sick and an am­bu­lance was called to the scene, po­lice said.

Paramedics from Diaz Am­bu­lance Ser­vices treated the boy, then took him to HealthAl­liance Hos­pi­tal’s Broad­way Cam­pus in Kingston, po­lice said.

Ro­driguez was arrested on Fri­day, was ar­raigned in Town of Sauger­ties Court and re­leased af­ter post­ing $500 bail. An or­der of pro­tec­tion was is­sued by the court on be­half of the vic­tim, po­lice said.
