Obama, Clinton did plenty to help the middle class

Daily Freeman (Kingston, NY) - - OPINION -

Dear Editor, Re “LETTER: Trump win a result of Democratic abandonment of middle class,” by Frank Stoppenbach, Nov. 9, 2016: The letter urged Democrats to move to the left, to “liberal positions,” to look to a stronger future next time.

The writer failed to note this substantial list of policy accomplishments that President Barack Obama, and U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton worked to get through Congress when they had a chance to, in 20092011: health care reform; Wall Street reform; federal student loan program reformed; increased support for veterans; new EPA pollution restrictions; credit card reforms; equality pay law; improved food safety system; wilderness protection; renewable tech investments.

All of the above help the average person.

Hillary Clinton would have continued to strengthen households in the above areas.

We’ll see what President Trump will do to make the lives of most of us better. We’ll see if we have four years of steady economic growth, of environmental progress, of economic reforms. Jon Wechsler
