Po­lice an­nounce ar­rest in Cross­gates gun­fire

Tasheem Maeweather, 20, of Albany, has been charged with reck­less en­dan­ger­ment and weapon pos­ses­sion.

GUILDERLAND >> Po­lice on Mon­day said they ar­rested a man ac­cused of fir­ing a gun­shot that pan­icked hun­dreds of peo­ple at Cross­gates Mall over the week­end.

Guilderland Po­lice said 20-year-old Tasheem Maeweather of Albany was ar­gu­ing with an­other per­son when he fired a gun in the mall, just out­side of Albany, about 2:30 p.m. Satur­day.

Many vis­i­tors fled, and po­lice swarmed to the mall while other shop­pers and em­ploy­ees shel­tered in­side busi­nesses, some for hours, as po­lice cleared the build­ing.

No in­juries were re­ported.

Maeweather was due to be ar­raigned Mon­day on felony reck­less en­dan­ger­ment and weapon pos­ses­sion charges.

The mall is one of the largest in New York state, with some 250 stores and restau­rants.
