Ge­orge R. Sowles, 80, of Malden Tpk., died peace­fully Sun­day, Nov. 13, 2016, at the Kingston Hos­pi­tal af­ter a brief ill­ness with his fam­ily at his side.

Born Jan. 15, 1936, in Sauger­ties, he was the son of the late Ed­ward and Pauline Sowles. A Grad­u­ate of Sauger­ties High School Class of 1954, he served in the U.S. Army sta­tioned at Fort Ben­ning, Ga., and in Fort Dix, N.J. He was em­ployed for over 40 years at Pesce’s Bak­ery and was a for­mer mem­ber of the Malden West Camp Fire Com­pany.

An avid sports­man, he loved to fish, hunt, trap, and archery. His hob­bies in­cluded gar­den­ing and wood­carv­ing of birds and wa­ter­fowl, which he would take to craft fairs, and rid­ing his scooter. He looked for­ward to his an­nual fish­ing trip to Lake Oneida.

Sur­vivors in­clude his wife, Gae­tana, with whom he re­cently cel­e­brated their 57th Wed­ding An­niver­sary; one daugh­ter, Deb­o­rah and her hus­band Ti­mothy Martino; one son, Ed­ward Sowles and his girl­friend Sharon VanVechten; and one grand­son, Kevin Martino and his sig­nif­i­cant other, Vic­to­ria Lapi­ana.

His Funeral Ser­vice will be held 11 a.m. Thurs­day at the Sea­mon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc., corner of John and Lafayette Sts. In­ter­ment will fol­low in the Blue Mt. Ceme­tery. Friends will be re­ceived Wed­nes­day 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Fam­ily sug­gests do­na­tions in his mem­ory be made to the Diaz Am­bu­lance or the Malden West Camp Fire Com­pany.
