Ste­wart pas­sen­ger to­tal down, cargo ton­nage up

A to­tal of 205,979 peo­ple used the air­port in the first nine months of this year com­pared to 214,887 last year.

The num­ber of pas­sen­gers us­ing Ste­wart In­ter­na­tional Air­port in the first nine months of this year lagged be­hind the num­bers from re­cent years, but the vol­ume of cargo mov­ing through the fa­cil­ity con­tin­ued to climb.

A to­tal of 205,979 pas­sen­gers used Ste­wart be­tween Jan. 1 and Sept. 30 of this year, the Ste­wart Air­port Com­mis­sion was told at a meet­ing Tues­day. That’s down from 214,887 dur­ing the first three quar­ters of 2015 and 235,287 dur­ing the same pe­riod in 2014.

Cargo ton­nage han­dled at Ste­wart in the first nine months of this year was 15,806, com­pared to 13,838 in the same por­tion of 2015, the com­mis­sion was told.

Ste­wart, in north­east­ern Orange County, has of­fered com­mer­cial flights for just over 25 years and has been op­er­ated by the Port Au­thor­ity of New York and New Jer­sey since late 2007.
