Stewart passenger total down, cargo tonnage up
A total of 205,979 people used the airport in the first nine months of this year compared to 214,887 last year.
The number of passengers using Stewart International Airport in the first nine months of this year lagged behind the numbers from recent years, but the volume of cargo moving through the facility continued to climb.
A total of 205,979 passengers used Stewart between Jan. 1 and Sept. 30 of this year, the Stewart Airport Commission was told at a meeting Tuesday. That’s down from 214,887 during the first three quarters of 2015 and 235,287 during the same period in 2014.
Cargo tonnage handled at Stewart in the first nine months of this year was 15,806, compared to 13,838 in the same portion of 2015, the commission was told.
Stewart, in northeastern Orange County, has offered commercial flights for just over 25 years and has been operated by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey since late 2007.
