Chase leads to 5-vehicle crash
A New York City man was jailed after authorities said he led a chase that ended in a five-vehicle crash that left a state trooper and two civilians injured.
State police said 24-year-old Angel J. Gomez of the Bronx sped away from Trooper Nigel Barnett after being pulled over on the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge about 10 p.m. Monday.
A brief chase ended when Gomez drove the wrong way on U.S. Route 9W in Newburgh and hit a car head-on, police said. The trooper’s car and two
other vehicles also crashed.
Gomez and a woman riding with him were captured on foot.
Charges again Gomez include reckless endangerment and assault, and he was held in the Orange County Jail.
