Robert J. Avery, 72, of West O’Reilly Street, died Tues­day, Nov. 15, 2016, at North­ern Dutchess Hos­pi­tal in Rhinebeck. Born Aug. 10, 1944, in Kingston, he was a son of the late Mitchell and Leona Avery.

Robert served in the U.S. Army dur­ing the Viet­nam War Era. He was em­ployed as an in­de­pen­dent truck driver.

Sur­viv­ing are his chil­dren, Doreen Avery of Con­way, S.C., Pamela Hill of Tampa, Fla., Robert Avery Jr. of Mon­roe, Lori Gund­berg of Ac­cord, Joseph Avery (Jas­mine Man­nello) of Kingston and Jodi Brooks of Ker­honk­son; and his brothers and sis­ters, Rose Rider, Gill Avery, James Avery, Shirley Lyons, Larry Avery and Vir­ginia Gray.

His wife, Carolyn Dart; brothers, Wil­liam “Bil­lie” Avery and My­ron Avery; and sis­ters, Annabelle Salmi and Florence Len­non, all died pre­vi­ously.

Fu­neral ar­range­ments are un­der the guid­ance of Joseph V. Leahy Fu­neral Home Inc., 27 Smith Ave., Kingston (www.jvleahyfh.com). Friends will be re­ceived at the fu­neral home on Fri­day from 4 to 8 p.m. A fu­neral ser­vice will be held Satur­day at 10:30 a.m. at the fu­neral home, Bernard C. Gray, fu­neral cel­e­brant, of­fi­ci­at­ing. Burial will fol­low in Mon­tre­pose Ceme­tery.
