Poet will read from her works at Vas­sar

WHAT: Po­etry read­ing WHEN: Dec. 1 at 6 p.m. WHERE: Room 203 of Tay­lor Hall on the cam­pus of Vas­sar Col­lege, 124 Ray­mond Ave., Pough­keep­sie DE­TAILS: Award-win­ning poet, es­say­ist, and trans­la­tor Jane Hir­sh­field will read from her po­etry. Hir­sh­field has pub­lished eight col­lec­tions of po­etry, in­clud­ing “The Beauty,” “After” and “Given Su­gar, Given Salt.” Her col­lec­tions of es­says on “the mind of po­etry” — “Ten Win­dows: How Great Po­ems Trans­form the World” and “Nine Gates: En­ter­ing the Mind of Po­etry” — are clas­sics in their field. Her work has been called “pas­sion­ate and ra­di­ant” by The New York Times Book Re­view and has been de­scribed by The San Francisco Chron­i­cle as ev­i­denc­ing “the grasp of a mas­ter.” The event is free and open to the public.
