Veterans who support Trump are traitors

Daily Freeman (Kingston, NY) - - OPINION -

Dear Editor: Re “LETTER: Hard-working Americans who love this country voted for Trump,” by James T. Varelas, Nov. 16, 2016: Varelas believes the “left-liberals” of this world are to be castigated.

As a far lefty, I think Jimmy should follow his beliefs and give back his voting rights, his eight-hour work week, his medical benefits, his female friends’ voting rights and their ability to control their own bodies, and everyone’s access to education. I wonder if he ever went to Selma, or if he ever protested any war based on lies, or if he’s ever made use of any other of the benefits we all have because of the struggle of left-oriented folks against people like him, starting before the Revolution.

Most obtuse of his statements is that he lauds Donald Trump, while he claims to be a veteran of the Navy. I’m a veteran, and I was with many, too many, brothers who were killed and maimed fighting the SS in World War II. I’ve taken very personally Trump’s castigating of veterans, and I believe that any veteran who publicly supports Trump is, at best, a traitor to all those who died and are dying in this country’s service.
