Check report before giving to charities

The Ulster County District Attorney’s Division of Consumer Affairs advises donors to consult the online National Charity Report Directory before contributing to national charities.

The website for the Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance is available atity-reviews/national.

The alliance helps donors make informed giving decisions by providing charity reports. It also advances high standards of conduct among organizations that solicit contributions from the public through the alliance’s Accountability Standards.

While it’s the donor’s decision, Wise Giving Alliance recommends they avoid or be extremely cautious when contributing to nondisclosure charities — those that do not provide Wise Giving Alliance with information needed to complete the charity evaluations.

The Division of Consumer Affairs can be reached at (845) 340-3260.
