Paint­ing con­ser­va­tor to speak at Olana

The Olana Part­ner­ship will host a free il­lus­trated lec­ture and dis­cus­sion with New York state Con­ser­va­tion Cen­ter’s paint­ing con­ser­va­tor, Mary Betle­jeski, at 3 p.m. Satur­day, Nov. 26.

Olana’s In­terim Di­rec­tor of Col­lec­tions & Re­search Va­lerie Balint and Olana State His­toric Site Man­ager Kim­berly Flook will join Betle­jeski to present be­hind-the-scenes in­for­ma­tion about the con­ser­va­tion of Fred­eric Church’s 1856 paint­ing, “Au­tumn,” which was over­painted when it was slated for auc­tion in the 1960s.

The lec­ture, fol­lowed by a dis­cus­sion/Q&A, a small re­cep­tion, and a brief tour into the East Par­lor of the Main House to see the orig­i­nal paint­ing at the end of the pro­gram, will take place in the Wagon House Ed­u­ca­tion Cen­ter at Olana State His­toric Site, 5720 state Route 9G.
