Small nets 1,000th career point for Hawks
Less than 24 hours after senior Kit Small joined SUNY New Paltz’s 1,000-point club, she helped rally the Hawks’ women’s basketball team to a big 56-44 comeback victory over Mount Union in the consolation game of the Chuck Resler Tournament.
Small scored 17 of her teamhigh 19 points in the second half, including going 10-for-11 at the foul line, to lead the (2-1) Hawks. She was named to the All-Tournament team.
New Paltz trailed 28-13 in the second quarter and went on to outscore Mount Union 37-16 in the second half to win. Marion Dietz had 11 points and nine rebounds and Morgan Roessler 10 points, nine boards and a pair of assists to help guide the Hawks.
Dietz scored 20 points, Courtney Irby 17, Small 16 and Roessler grabbed eight rebounds in Friday’s 88-76 first-round loss to host Rochester.
A layup with 7:30 left in the first half made Small the fourth player in the program’s history to reach 1,000 career points. She joins Robin Shields (1,135, 19962000), Jasmine Sanchez (1,066, 1995-99) and Alex McCullough (1,031, 2009-13) in the exclusive
