Small nets 1,000th ca­reer point for Hawks

Less than 24 hours af­ter se­nior Kit Small joined SUNY New Paltz’s 1,000-point club, she helped rally the Hawks’ women’s bas­ket­ball team to a big 56-44 come­back vic­tory over Mount Union in the con­so­la­tion game of the Chuck Resler Tour­na­ment.

Small scored 17 of her teamhigh 19 points in the sec­ond half, in­clud­ing go­ing 10-for-11 at the foul line, to lead the (2-1) Hawks. She was named to the All-Tour­na­ment team.

New Paltz trailed 28-13 in the sec­ond quar­ter and went on to outscore Mount Union 37-16 in the sec­ond half to win. Mar­ion Di­etz had 11 points and nine re­bounds and Mor­gan Roessler 10 points, nine boards and a pair of as­sists to help guide the Hawks.

Di­etz scored 20 points, Court­ney Irby 17, Small 16 and Roessler grabbed eight re­bounds in Fri­day’s 88-76 first-round loss to host Rochester.

A layup with 7:30 left in the first half made Small the fourth player in the pro­gram’s his­tory to reach 1,000 ca­reer points. She joins Robin Shields (1,135, 19962000), Jas­mine Sanchez (1,066, 1995-99) and Alex McCul­lough (1,031, 2009-13) in the ex­clu­sive
