Man who died in fiery crash identified as NYC resident
The man who died in a Nov. 9 accident on U.S. Route 9 has been identified as an 83-year-old New York City resident.
Hyde Park police said Monday that Robert B. Stattel was the person killed when the vehicle he was driving went off Route 9 between Scenic Drive and Ledges Drive about 1:25 p.m., struck a rock wall and a tree, and caught fire.
Stattel was alone in the vehicle at the time.
The day after the crash, police said a preliminary identification was made at the scene but the man’s identity was being withheld pending a determination by the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office.
