Man who died in fiery crash iden­ti­fied as NYC res­i­dent

The man who died in a Nov. 9 ac­ci­dent on U.S. Route 9 has been iden­ti­fied as an 83-year-old New York City res­i­dent.

Hyde Park po­lice said Mon­day that Robert B. Stat­tel was the per­son killed when the ve­hi­cle he was driv­ing went off Route 9 be­tween Scenic Drive and Ledges Drive about 1:25 p.m., struck a rock wall and a tree, and caught fire.

Stat­tel was alone in the ve­hi­cle at the time.

The day af­ter the crash, po­lice said a pre­lim­i­nary iden­ti­fi­ca­tion was made at the scene but the man’s iden­tity was be­ing with­held pend­ing a de­ter­mi­na­tion by the Dutchess County Med­i­cal Ex­am­iner’s Of­fice.
