Charles E. Di­etz, Jr., 84, of Red Hook, N.Y., and for­merly of Monroe, N.Y., passed away on Tues­day, Nov. 22, 2016, at Vas­sar Brothers Med­i­cal Cen­ter in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

Born on July 22, 1932, in Bay­onne, N.J., he was the son of the late Charles E. Di­etz, Sr., and Theresa (Be­taschay) Di­etz. Charles mar­ried Lillian Garippa on Sept. 11, 1954, in Jer­sey City, N.J. His lov­ing wife of 62 years, Lillian, sur­vives at home in Red Hook.

For 30 years, Charles worked for the Ford Mo­tor Com­pany. And later, as a school bus driver for the Monroe-Wood­bury school dis­trict.

Charles served as a Cor­po­ral in the U.S. Ma­rine Corps dur­ing the Korean War. He fought in the bat­tle of the Chosin Reser­voir.

He was a com­mu­ni­cant of St. Christo­pher’s Church in Red Hook, and pre­vi­ously of St. Anas­ta­sia Church in Har­ri­man, N.Y., where he served on their Par­ish Coun­cil and as the fa­cil­ity main­te­nance man­ager.

Charles was a de­voted hus­band, lov­ing fa­ther and grand­fa­ther. He was a good-hearted man who will be greatly missed by his lov­ing fam­ily and friends.

In ad­di­tion to his lov­ing wife, he is sur­vived by his chil­dren: Donna (Bill) Downs of Howell, Mich., Lisa (Jim) Obri­zok of Red Hook, N.Y., and Charles (Veron­ica) Di­etz, III, of Cos Cob, Conn.; his sib­lings, Johnny Di­etz of Hawaii, Mary­lou Lang of Cal­i­for­nia, and Joseph Di­etz of Florida; two grand­daugh­ters, Jill and Jenna Obri­zok, along with many step-grand­chil­dren, step-great-grand­chil­dren, ex­tended fam­ily, and friends.

Friends may call at the Bur­nett & White Funeral Homes on Fri­day, Nov. 25, 2016, from 3 to 7 p.m. and Satur­day, Nov. 26, 2016, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be of­fered at 12 noon on Satur­day, Nov. 26, 2016, at St. Christo­pher’s Church, Red Hook, N.Y. In­ter­ment will be pri­vate at St. Paul’s Lutheran Ceme­tery, Red Hook.

In lieu of flow­ers, me­mo­rial do­na­tions may be made in Charles’s memory to; St. Christo­pher’s Par­ish in Red Hook, N.Y., the Alzheimer’s As­soc. or to the Amer­i­can Heart As­so­ci­a­tion.
